News: Family killed in three-vehicle wreck in Huerfano County
HERFANO COUNTY, CO – Three people were killed in a three-vehicle wreck on I-25 near Walsenburg on Friday, Fox 21 reports.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, the accident occurred near mile marker 50 at approximately 6:52 a.m., when 24-year-old Ragan Seely lost control of his northbound 2008 Ford F-250, which crashed through the guardrail that separates the northbound and southbound lanes. The Ford rolled into the path of a 2020 Hyundai Elantra and a 2008 GMC Sierra, overturning the GMC onto its roof and sending the Elantra careening into a guardrail.
All three occupants of the Hyundai died at the scene. The driver has been identified as 21-year-old Mason Collier and his front-seat passenger as 52-year-old Steven Collier, both of Colorado Springs. The third victim was a 16-year-old boy also of Colorado Springs, whose name has been withheld because of his age.
Seely, who has been cited by CSP as the causing driver, was taken to a local hospital alongside his 23-year-old passenger. Both suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the GMC Sierra was seriously injured, but is expected to survive. He has been identified as Walter Melby, 85, of Loveland.
